THE HYDE PARK GREENHOUSE

In our search for a greenhouse, our goal was to find a water conserving and energy efficient design.

Lisa Evans, Co-Founder

Lisa Evans holds a BA from Tufts University, a MAT from Simmons University and a MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts. She taught for the Boston Public Schools for twelve years. She became fascinated with Microgreens after a visit to the Hippocrates Health Institute, and thus turned the home she shared with Tim Smith into their first greenhouse in 2015.

Through a grant from the Carrot Project, she worked with a business consultant to analyze the numbers for the business and prepared a business plan. She completed Interise’s Streetwise MBA seven-month certificate program endorsed by Boston University. Recently, she completed New Entry’s Sustainable Farming Project certificate business program for new farmers. Through SCORE's mentorship the business has thrived.

Tim Smith, Co-Founder

Tim Smith is a graduate of Oberlin College and Boston College Law School. He taught in the Boston and Newton Public Schools for a decade. Prior to teaching, he worked at John Hancock Insurance Company on a class action lawsuit. He has worked on the business since January 2015 when his passion for growing plants took over his house. Tim completed a training with Nelson and Pade on Aquaponics, but ultimately microgreens grown in soil with sunshine became his passion. He won second place at the Boston Flower Show for an Olive and Jade tree, and second place for the Shade Category of the City of Boston’s Garden contest.

Tessa, Horticultural Intern

I am currently in my second year at Northeastern University, where I am continuing to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Sustainability Sciences. I was first introduced to my passion for protecting the natural world through my work as a steward in Mill River Park in Stamford, CT, in the summer of 2022, where I learned about urban green spaces and assisted in the general park conservation. My love for travel and pushing my comfort zone influenced me to pursue the incredible opportunity to study wildlife conservation in Sydney, Australia. That summer, I immersed myself in the vast world of conservation, coming home more open-minded to increasingly unique approaches to environmental sustainability, which I hope to continue growing throughout my career.
I aim to dedicate my life to learning how our communities can coexist with nature, rather than fight against it.

Our farm is powered by Soliculture translucent pink solar panels, as well as Smartflower retractable solar panel array. We also collect and utilize rain water for the majority of our greenhouse watering. Our venlo style roof opens naturally, venting hot air.
